Celebrate Your Wedding Beneath the Trees
Nestled in a 40-acre nature sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD, and just 9 miles from downtown DC, historic Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion is an elegant yet relaxed venue. Built in 1927, Woodend Mansion was designed by the renowned architect John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial and the National Archives Building. Environmentally conscious couples enjoy this venue’s commitment to nature and wildlife preservation. Your ceremony can be held in the tree-lined Hemlock Grove or in the complimentary tent. You and your guests will be able to enjoy the interior of the manor with beautiful wood floors, perfect for dance. Please note that dance is only permitted inside the mansion . Your event will also benefit from plenty of complimentary on-site parking. Couples love Woodend's staging areas, which can accommodate large wedding parties. Both rooms have restrooms and are the perfect places to finish getting ready and do detailed photos of shoes, gown, boutonniere, bouquet, rings and so much more. Couples who need a private room for a pre-wedding ceremony, such as signing the Ketubah, can choose one of these two private rooms for this purpose as well. Woodend can accommodate up to 170 guests from spring through fall, and 120 guests during winter. Part of the rental fee supports the mission of Nature Forward (formerly Audubon Naturalist Society) and is tax-deductible. The rental fee is not subjected to sales tax. You can bring your own alcohol. The approved caterers you choose will set up the bar and provide the bartenders to serve it. Some of Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion’s approved caterers are Green Restaurant Certified. These vendors receive this recognition based on carrying out activities that include reducing waste and pollution, finding sustainable food options, and using energy-efficient methods. The caterers provide food, soft drinks and bar mixers, waiters, attendants, bartenders, and dining equipment including tables and chairs. They also take care of the setup and tear down for the event to ensure that couples have a smooth and relaxing experience during and after the wedding celebration.
