The opera house was erected in 1877 and, despite its name, was used for performing plays rather than operas. Connecting the historic house and the wedding venue is the famous Haddam Swingbridge. During the 1960s the bridge was known for its innovative build and design to help modernize means of transportation. Now the structures serve as picturesque locations while continuing to provide their intended functions. The award-winning Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station features stunning grounds with a beautiful interior. Located outside is a dazzling fountain surrounded by manicured shrubs and flowers. The venue also features picturesque riverside views of the Goodspeed Opera House and accessible wooden docks. Inside, a spacious lobby with a grand two-story staircase leads to the ballroom and dressing-room suites. The ballroom can host up to 300 guests and features vaulted ceilings and grand chandeliers. Located at the center of the room is a hardwood dance floor with easy access from all sides. Connected to the venue is an outdoor glass-roof atrium used to host ceremonies or cocktail hours.
