Create Stunning Experiences with Historic Roots**OPENING JUNE 2025** The Atwood Music Hall is the newest events venue in Madison, WI, offering a unique, upscale space ideal for your wedding celebration. Whether you're planning a beautiful, intimate event with your favorite people or a joyful party with everyone you know, the Atwood Music Hall offers a flexible and exciting canvas for whatever you envision. Currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar renovation, the completed building will hold space for weddings and private events from 150 to 700 people. Walking into the building, the diamond-shaped lamella ceiling immediately draws attention. The overall venue design will pay homage to the Art Deco period in which the building was conceived. State-of-the-art sound, lights, and video will offer professional AV capabilities for ceremonies, speeches, presentations, live music, or DJs, to keep your attendees captivated throughout the event. Two dressing rooms in the lower level with direct stage access make getting ready a breeze, and the catering area will provide food vendors plenty of setup space to keep your attendees well fed. Three bars are located throughout the building to keep drink lines short. While the venue is close to many hotels, it also manages two area parking lots that can accommodate up to 108 cars. Impress your guests with an amazing experience and create lasting memories at the Atwood Music Hall. HISTORY: Built in 1932, this structure was once home to the Madison Gospel Tabernacle. However, the history of the building, and when the Tabernacle changed locations, is shrouded in mystery. It is widely thought that the church moved in the 1960s, and an alternative school called Freedom House took its place in 1970. This school was linked to the "Freedom School" movement of the 60s that began in Mississippi by the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. They focused on providing education on equality, civil liberties, and black history. During that time, the location was also used for concerts and counterculture political gatherings. In 1980, the building was acquired by Operation Fresh Start, a non-profit aiming to teach high school children construction and remodeling skills. Later, in 2018, Operation Fresh Start relocated, and the building was sold in 2019 and finally again in 2021 to The Bur Oak, which renovated it and created a new community art space.
