Where the sky meets water
Where the sky meets waterA country estate of the first order, Welkinweir is nestled into a hillside of 224 acres in the heart of Chester County. The property takes its name from the Old English translation of "where sky meets water." To this end, five ponds and a meandering brook are just the beginning of a true visual feast. Remnants of a 200-year-old stone barn, a springhouse, protected forests, abundant wildlife and a 55-acre arboretum paint a scene of incredible beauty and tranquility. Formal gardens and terraces surround the venerable estate house, its earliest roots traced back to the 1740s. Listed on the National Historic Register, the residence lends a time-honored backdrop for indoor/outdoor events. Welkinweir is the home of Green Valleys Watershed Association, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to protect, preserve and restore the natural watersheds of Chester County.
