The Gem of Carytown
The Gem of CarytownThe Byrd Theatre is a wedding venue in Richmond, VA, and is both a State and National historic landmark. The Theatre celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2019 and is highly regarded as one of America's grand movie palaces. The 1,200-seat Byrd Theatre is named after the man who founded Richmond itself, William Byrd II. Small changes have been made to meet technological advances, but The Byrd Theatre has chiefly maintained its original 1928 condition. The Reinhart Auditorium has also seen very few changes, and the stunning old-fashioned decor makes for an ideal wedding venue. The room can comfortably accommodate up to 700 seated guests. An 18-foot-tall, 2 ½-ton chandelier hangs in the middle of the ceiling and will light up your ceremony. It contains about 5,000 crystals and 500 bulbs alternating between red, blue, green, and amber. The Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre organ is housed in two rooms above the stage. The organ has 17 ranks of organ pipes and a full range of percussion instruments to use for your ceremony and cocktail hour. The Byrd Theatre can play host to wedding ceremonies but is also available for various events, including independent film screenings, festivals, corporate retreats, and live performances. Due to public programming, the Byrd is generally free for rental and buyout outside of specific days and times. Please feel free to contact the team directly by phone or drop in. You can also reach them via their website by submitting a small form, and the events team will get back to you in a reasonable time.
