Celebrate New Beginnings at a Historic Cabin
The Historic Covington House is a quaint venue located in Vancouver, WA. This 19th-century cottage boasts a dynamic history and charming atmosphere, making it perfect for couples who seek a destination with character. This extraordinary venue can host a variety of wedding-related events like engagement parties, showers, and more. The cabin was constructed in 1848 by Richard and Anne Covington, an English couple who settled in the Pacific Northwest. At the time, the land that would become Washington state was known as Oregon Territory and had very few inhabitants. Fort Vancouver, where the Covingtons built their home, had a base for the Hudson Bay Trading Company and drew some settlers. The Covingtons were teachers hired to teach local children music. They became known for bringing the first piano to the Oregon Territory. The couple were popular among the community and often hosted music sessions in their home. While the future President Ulysses S. Grant was stationed in the Pacific Northwest, he became friends with the Covingtons. He later invited Richard to work in Washington, DC. In 1930, the cabin was carefully disassembled and rebuilt in its current location in Vancouver. It was cared for by The Vancouver Women’s Club, now the Covington House Heritage Society. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is located on the former Pacific Highway. It is tucked away from the road in the shade of towering trees, an appropriate space for this landmark home. When the cabin was moved to its new location, it was fitted with new wood floors, a large stone hearth, windows, and a new roof. Electricity and running water were also installed, making it possible for a functioning kitchen and bathrooms to be built in the home. The fireplace was constructed using local stones from the river and a large piece of timber as the mantle. The Historic Covington House welcomes couples celebrating their journey together for a variety of events. You can hold your engagement party, wedding shower, or even an elegant afternoon tea here. It is an ideal space for intimate gatherings, and they are happy to host small ceremonies and receptions here. Tables can be placed on the lawn with the historic cabin in the background if you choose to have an outdoor event.
