Hold a Ceremony at a Historic Schoolhouse
Hold a Ceremony at a Historic SchoolhouseLocated in Zeeland, MI, District 5 Schoolhouse is a historic wedding venue with a narrative that extends into the 1800s. Its walls have withstood over a century of use and housed various types of establishments. For couples who seek a spot with heritage, this venue can tick that box. District 5 Schoolhouse began as a one-room education institution in 1874. At that time, it was a place of both learning and spirituality. In 1908, the property got an upgrade in the form of a 3-room schoolhouse. The original structure was torn down in favor of the new one, which looks very much like the venue standing today. Another room was added to the building in 1954 to facilitate learning for tenth-grade students. Consolidation in 1968 caused the school to close. Throughout the following years, the establishment’s life was revived, starting with the efforts of the Weaver family. In their time, they repurposed the building to serve its community as a restaurant. Subsequent owners followed a similar mode of operation until the venue remained vacant after the closure of an antique shop in 2003. In 2015, the schoolhouse was purchased by the current owner, who spent 10 months on renovations. Now, this venue offers an open and welcoming space with original accents and modern amenities. Couples having an event at District 5 Schoolhouse can invite up to 200 guests. There are two outdoor areas as well as two decks for seating. Before the ceremony, the betrothed can get ready in separate suites, both located on the premises. Bar services are included in packages and decorations may be rented on request. For downtime, couples and their guests have the opportunity to enjoy a bonfire or numerous outdoor games. If couples would like assistance in planning their celebrations, this can be arranged. Conveniently, there are no added fees for entertainment, catering, or serving drinks. The entire facility is ADA compliant and allows couples exclusive use for their occasion.
